Dead End - Strapped EP (Unchained Recordings)

Mastering Engineer - Saif Bari

Unchained Recordings invites you to download an exclusive copy of their upcoming release by Dead End.

Mentored by one of the geniuses of the Portuguese Bass scene, the wonderful late Razat, RIP, Carlos Salgueiro, producing under the moniker Dead End, has come from deep hip-hop roots to passionately embrace what has been labelled as the ‘future sound’ of Bass music. Tasteful pallets of abstract, ethereal structures, raw powered-up bass movements and artfully composed, but heavy as fuck, beats are just some of the ingredients.”

A few of the more open-minded Bass scenes including Bristol, Denver and Shenzhen, to name a few, have been embracing this crunchy, ‘Wonkay’ universe of Halftime for years now. Unchained are very much part of the this religion, operating under the same guiding principle….. “a bent frequency is a good frequency”

Enter Dead End with his “Strapped” EP. Whilst we envision that this release may not necessarily be for the old school head, we love this for its dirty aesthetic, tidal wave low-end and for its effect on unsuspecting dancefloors.

As an aside, Unchained would like to thank everyone for their support in recent days and weeks, we very much appreciate it. We hope this EP and future Unchained releases see you through the end of lockdown.

dope - Major Threats (STRTEP085) [Saturate Records]

The Untz Feature:

https://www.theuntz.com/news/dope-launches-massive-saturate-records-ep-major-threats/

Tyler Giordani and Chad Smith from Halifax return to our feeds in a big way. Today marks the release of Major Threats from dope on their home label, Saturate Records. It's a sprawling 8-track EP which features four pounding originals and four equally intoxicating remixes from StarkeyDj RideSmoakland, and SIGKILL.

Tracks like “Murkin'” and “Issavibe” really underscore the duo's dedication to left-field hip-hop. The title track is tailor made for Saturate with its ultra-fuzzy, overpowering synths and the beeps and boops of robotic runs. “Construct” might be my favorite track on the EP, with its progressive sound and off-kilter vibe. Of course the legend Starkey runs in with a haunting, cinematic take that's completely unexpected, and Dj Ride goes party time on his reworking.

We're still staying optimistic and counting down the days until these east coast Canadian boys can join us at The Untz Festival 2021 on the west coast. Pray for those big, bad pharmaceutical companies for us.

Out now on Saturate Records

Brain-melting off-grid halftime beat science, fresh out on Saturate. So much bass, so many insane production flips, this is proper 2020 bass music. ‘Murkin’ has more ideas than most producer’s whole EP’s, and ‘Construct’ has these psuedo-drops, everything get’s tight and wide and dark and it feels so good. 5 remixes to boot, with DJ Ride stealing the show. Nice.

Neve - Flowrida EP (Unchained Recordings)

Mastering Engineer - Saif Bari

It gives us great pleasure to welcome back one of the label’s very good friends, Neve!

With his latest release on Unchained, Neve expresses more of his own well-crafted brand of concrete funk, militant breaks and modern sound sculpture.

At times the Flowrida EP verges on the edge of that classic old school feel, harking back to imprints such a Reinforced or Bingo, yet at other times it takes a journeyed walk across various branches of the electronic music tree. Unambiguously dancefloor, the EP spans halftime, mid-tempo breakbeat - with his collaboration with Samurai Breaks, and two tracks of unapologetically raw Drum and Bass.

“I just feel the vibe. If I want to make a hardcore thing, it’s okay. If I want to do deep, it’s okay. I try and include elements of UKG, house, reggae dub things I love. I’m just trying to find a balance of mixing together all the styles.” - Neve

A strong four track release, Flowrida has something for both the flourishing return to rave community and the young Junglist alike.

Sharrol Kelby - Drive (Sublimited Sounds)

All my halftime people are about to be blown away by Sharrol Kelby’s newest release. To quote Headbang Society’s very own Segovia Carlos, “this track is what I like to call a certified bop.” The track, being released via Gainesville Collective Sublimited Sounds and premiered on Headbang Society, features what can only be described as a quite beautiful fusion of breakbeats, dope vocal samples & killer neuro bass. This track will truly take you on a journey throughout its three-and-a-half minutes reminiscent of putting the pedal to the metal. Alec Smith, the artist behind the Sharrol Kelby name, has truly put a name to himself throughout a hectic 2020, appearing on various virtual festivals including Digital FootprintsSubsonic Music Festival, and #iVoted FestivalDrive is yet another certified banger in Mr. Kelby’s impressive discography. I personally cannot wait to see what is yet to come!

“DRIVE” is a heavy, cinematic halftime tune that was created after taking time to experiment with some newly-discovered sounds. My goal was to create a progressive, energetic journey of futuristic sounds and melodies that also seemed concise. – Sharrol Kelby

DIVING DEEP W/ SHARROL KELBY

1) What served as inspiration for the halftime feel for this new track?

– Much of my inspiration comes from progressive/psychedelic rock and jazz fusion. The songs can take you on a journey through several different sections that all come back together in the end. As far as the halftime feel, I typically enjoy writing at halftime tempo due to the fast-paced nature. It really opens up a door of creativity for drum patterns and fills. If I had to pick one artist that inspired me during this track, it would be Vorso.

2) What do you see for the future of the Sharrol Kelby project?

– I’ve been working alongside my fiance, Ellie Burke, who has created almost the entire visual aspect of the Sharrol Kelby project. We have performed a few live streams as a DJ/VJ team but are planning to take this experience to live clubs and venues to show music fans what the Sharrol Kelby experience is about (once it’s safe again). Other than that, expect more music and new merch in 2021!
