Long Island-based electronic producer Detøx has once again blown it out of the park with his long-awaited debut EP titled “Don’t be Afraid.” The five track EP, being released March 5th on Producer Dojo, represents the culmination of almost eight years of hard work behind the Detøx project. James Dietrichson, the man behind the Detøx moniker, has been known for many years now for his incredibly innovative and unique DJing style and for his incredible proficiency in FL Studio! His journey with the Producer Dojo, in which he is currently a Sensei in FL Studio production, has served as a continuation of his two-year journey in electronic music production education. “Don’t Be Afraid” really highlights all of James’ skills in electronic music. The EP showcases a perfect mixture of deep and dark sounds with synthy, electronic soundscapes that will have you craving a live concert immediately. A perfect example of the Detøx sound really comes through in the final track, “Ordinary Conscious State,” which features absurd, underground-inspired bass. James’ sound design, mixed perfectly within the structure of the track, creates a beat that will have fans in awe. For those new to the Detøx name, get ready for quite a journey!

“Don’t Be Afraid” to dive deep into a new world of bass music with this

cutting edge EP from DETØX. Exploring a place “Far From Home” where

everything feels a little “Too Damn Proper,” you may find yourself a little

disorientated and thinking you “Can’t stop me now” but don’t worry, in the

end you might just wind up back in your “Ordinary Conscious State” of

mind.”

Young bass music producer DETØX has stomped onto the electronic scene with his debut EP, Don't Be Afraid.

Don't Be Afraid arrives by way of Producer Dojo, a prominent music production collective led by ill.Gates. Spanning five tracks, the EP is a song-cycle of wobbly bass music that delves into the darkest, wonkiest netherworlds of trap music.

The record kicks off with its titular track, which kicks off with a rumbling bass patch before building into a mind-melting trap drop. "Far From Home" follows suit with a similarly maniacal drop that sounds as if it were plucked out of an alien rave. DETØX follows with "Too Damn Proper," a screeching experimental bass tune, before unloading the relentless "Can't Stop Now Me Now." He ties a bow on the EP with "Ordinary Conscious State," a track that makes brilliant use of radio transmissions in its spacey, hypnotic arrangement.

There’s something to be said for newer artists taking their time to develop their very first releases. James Dietrichson, aka DETØX, is one of those artists that has earned respect slowly over time, while carefully developing his craft along the way. DETØX has been producing electronic music since 2013 and only now is releasing his long-awaited debut EP, Don’t Be Afraid, under the Producer Dojo stamp.

Finding a balance between the dark and light, while combining the heavy and uplifting styles of sound, Don’t Be Afraid is a deep dive into a new world of bass music. Joining in on this five-track journey is a welcomed one for those who have already experienced DETØX as well as for those who are joining in for their first listen on this cutting-edge project. However, one must be willing to take this first step towards helping humanity unite as one, says DETØX in a press release. He continues,

“No matter who you are or where you come from, we are locked into this world together and it is together that we find our way out.”

Exploring a place “Far From Home” where everything feels a little “Too Damn Proper,” listeners may find themselves a little disorientated or thinking you “Can’t Stop Me Now.” But don’t worry because, in the end, you might just wind up back in your “Ordinary Conscious State” of mind.

Having been on some major coast-to-coast festival lineups in the three years pre-COVID, CE even featured Dietrichson on our Road To Quasar series back in 2019. With all original mixes that have been turning heads too, DETØX is known for creating a unique experience that is specifically designed for each show. The image created around DETØX is to help people understand both sides of life and who they are within it.

Sharrol Kelby - Drive (Sublimited Sounds)

Mastering Engineer - Saif Bari

All my halftime people are about to be blown away by Sharrol Kelby’s newest release. To quote Headbang Society’s very own Segovia Carlos, “this track is what I like to call a certified bop.” The track, being released via Gainesville Collective Sublimited Sounds and premiered on Headbang Society, features what can only be described as a quite beautiful fusion of breakbeats, dope vocal samples & killer neuro bass. This track will truly take you on a journey throughout its three-and-a-half minutes reminiscent of putting the pedal to the metal. Alec Smith, the artist behind the Sharrol Kelby name, has truly put a name to himself throughout a hectic 2020, appearing on various virtual festivals including Digital FootprintsSubsonic Music Festival, and #iVoted FestivalDrive is yet another certified banger in Mr. Kelby’s impressive discography. I personally cannot wait to see what is yet to come!

“DRIVE” is a heavy, cinematic halftime tune that was created after taking time to experiment with some newly-discovered sounds. My goal was to create a progressive, energetic journey of futuristic sounds and melodies that also seemed concise. – Sharrol Kelby

DIVING DEEP W/ SHARROL KELBY

1) What served as inspiration for the halftime feel for this new track?

– Much of my inspiration comes from progressive/psychedelic rock and jazz fusion. The songs can take you on a journey through several different sections that all come back together in the end. As far as the halftime feel, I typically enjoy writing at halftime tempo due to the fast-paced nature. It really opens up a door of creativity for drum patterns and fills. If I had to pick one artist that inspired me during this track, it would be Vorso.

2) What do you see for the future of the Sharrol Kelby project?

– I’ve been working alongside my fiance, Ellie Burke, who has created almost the entire visual aspect of the Sharrol Kelby project. We have performed a few live streams as a DJ/VJ team but are planning to take this experience to live clubs and venues to show music fans what the Sharrol Kelby experience is about (once it’s safe again). Other than that, expect more music and new merch in 2021!

Bayalien Sound System - Smokestacks EP (We Got This Music)

Mastered by Saif Bari

Written and Produced by Chris Cohan and Ivan Lindau

The Bayalien Sound System duo, Poppa Doses and Golden Eye, return to Bay Area bass music label We Got This Music for another system rattling 3 tracker. 'Smokestacks', starts the EP off smooth with a slow psychedelic dancehall vibe, working its way into luscious flute samples, sweeps, and rich analog Moog sounds. The next track, 'SHAKE', basically a hip-hop beat on DMT, does exactly what it promises and shakes you into a thick distorted bassline with gritty drums and otherworldly transitions. The closer, 'Beautiful Bass Lines' is self-explanatory.
