Cypher 016: Trippin’ Down Memory Lane is the latest edition of the Producer Dojo monthly original music mixtape challenges. The curator of this cypher is none other than Zodiak Iller who has been with Producer Dojo since its founding. The challenge this time around was to create a narrative and tell a story with sound. Cryptochronica kicks off the EP with the upbeat and glitchy vocal excursion, “Celluloid Dreams” followed by the atmospheric and melodic voyage by Lunch With Ghosts, “Flagrant Smile.” Spiderhound delivers a hypnotic and dreamy vocal tune “Hold You” that explores feelings of longing and ecstasy. Memory Code takes us on a beautiful soundscape journey on “Until We Meet Again” and “Almond Iller” is how Zodiak Iller closes off the EP with his hauntingly beautiful and emotionally powerful vocal tune collaboration with Almond Mocha, a duo featuring Kelly Proud on vocals and Ryan VanDuyn Co-Producing. Bayalien Sound System is a project by Bay Area bassheads Poppa Doses and Golden Eye, the project has been featured on XLR8R, does regular shows on Sub FM, released on a bunch of Bay Area based labels and continuously brought heady bass music to the forefront of their productions.
This new EP is their Muti Music debut and features another familiar face in TASO, with a tune that takes a listener into a futuristic alien ghetto, the EP then moves down to Rio De Janeiro, where the aliens encounter a favela of rhythms and urban hustle. Golden Lotus brings on underground rave vibes, with twisted characters getting their groove one and Dusty rounds the EP off with a well blazed vibe of slightly warped sounds of twisted bass with some sinister overtones.
