Dov1 Presents Clipping Paths 4 - Various Artists (Muti Music)

With Masters by Mastering Engineer Saif Bari

The Clipping Paths series compiled by Dov1 continues with a version themed on all things influenced by Dub / Reggae / Island Vibes. The roster featured are some familiar Muti Music artists , along with some fresh faces for the future.
The compilation kicks off in the 85BPM range and as the compilation progresses, moves it’s way down to deeper 70BPM Dubstep and softer vibes. We hope you feel a little bit of the dub, a little bit of the skank and bounce and then a good amount of soft and heady chill vibes.

The original Clipping Paths compilation in 2007 set a tone for many emerging sounds from Muti Music and featured ‘then’ new artists Ooah, Vibesquad, Audiovoid, Nanda, Timonkey, Slidecamp and Muti regulars like An-ten-nae and Dov1, needless to say it has been quoted by many as an influence and has proven to help define new sounds that have blown up in the years that followed.

Rohaan - Lost Sirens EP (Unchained Recordings)

Mastered by Mastering Engineer Saif Bari

Rohaan is about as diverse as they come when it comes to artistic output.

With releases on a wide range of labels including Deadbeats,
Circus and Saturate, we have witnessed him rapidly ascend the ranks of modern electronic as a solo artist, as a prolific collaborator and garnering support from legends such as DJ Craze, Bleep Bloop and Noisia to name a few.

Now as he rolls out his latest incarnation of musical halftime tapestry, he joins the Unchained Recordings family in search of new sonic summits.

The first track on the EP, “Sirens”, is a veritable beast. Dirty stabs, bouncing bass sweeps and powerful off-script breaks all form part of the “I’m gunna mess with you” ethos that we like to hear at least once or twice on a well rounded Unchained EP. Then if you have been starving for a proper underground halftime sing-a-long banger in your life, Rohaan has answered the call with “Darlin”. Melodic hooks artfully combine with well crafted grimey bassline banters to make it, and its minimal remix cousin also on the EP, a ‘must have’ for all card-carrying bass aficionados.
Finally “Gums” surprises with constantly evolving amorphous rhythms and ghostly low-end stabs and movements. One could say it echoes the 20/20 left field hip-hop camp but dons brand new clothing reflecting Rohaan’s unique musical heritage.

Cryptochronica is the glitch fusion project of Seattle based producer, Chris Michaels. A digital weaver, Michaels blends genre and style into the sonic bass fabric that defines Cryptochronica’s sound. Omnitempo and maximalist, Cryptochronica sets seamlessly thread funk, soul, rock, reggae, hip-hop and downtempo with the heavy bass styles of the underground.

Originally from Oahu, Hawaii, Michaels was influenced by the islands’ Reggae, dub and Jawaiian (Jamaican-Hawaiian Fusion) scenes and Cryptochronica often shares glimmers of these tropical inspirations. The name itself is drawn from this Rasta-fusion tradition: both the words “Crip” and “Chronic” are Hawaiian pidgin (slang) for Cannabis. When blockchain and crypto currencies exploded into the public consciousness, it was only a short leap to conceiving Cryptochronica: the digital drug.

Michaels was radio DJ and played acoustic and Indie Rock for many years on Oahu in the early-2010’s. Michaels was always attracted to underground, independent styles of music because of their disregard for popular convention and their commitment to artistic integrity. When Indie Rock went “mainstream” (in his words: “with the tragic release of the the film Garden State) Michaels lamented its assimilation into pop culture and searched for the new, cutting edge frontier of music. It was at this juncture that he discovered electronic music.

Mystified as to how electronic music functioned, Michaels endeavored to learn how it was arranged and performed. Michaels enrolled in ill.Gates’ production and music class, The Class of 808, and studied production. He was impressed by the limitless possibilities electronic music offers and has been exploring those possibilities in his own stylistic way for three years.
